Google’s New Silicon1 min read

Google has grown irritated that it can’t push updates to its older devices due to restrictions from Qualcomm. Google is reportedly creating her custom Systems on a Chip (SoC). This custom SOC called Whitechapel will feature in upcoming Pixel devices as well as Chromebooks similar to how Apple utilises their chips in the iPhone and iPads.

Google has partnered with Samsung’s System Large-Scale Integration (SLSI) arm for assistance in the design and manufacture of this chip which is internally known as ‘GS101’ or Google Silicon.

Besides offering longer Android Updates to older devices, Google aims to deliver better optimization and integration of software and hardware to its customers.
